ABOUT THIS ALBUM
Filmmaker Jack Norton is pleased to partner with music and art label Wholesome Amateur to release a series of 5” poly records featuring music from and inspired by the artists appearing in the highly anticipated documentary film, Jug Band Hokum.
Based in St. Paul, Minnesota, Wholesome Amateur was created to release small runs of handmade mono-lathe cut records (using their sweet vintage Presto lathe and Audex cutting head), packaged in interesting ways (with an emphasis on original handmade art - typically screen printed, and often accompanied by odd additions) made especially for those who enjoy the intimacy of music relics. Their focus is on the personal experience of creating something interesting for folks to consume, albeit, in small quantities.
Jug Band Hokum, the debut film from Emmy Award winning director Jack Norton, has been hailed by Film & Review Magazine as “a real-life version of Christopher Guest’s A Mighty Wind with dashes of Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers. A wildly fun documentary.” Starring Brooklynd Turner, Anne Baggenstoss and Amnesia Starr, the film also features appearances by author and radio sensation Garrison Keillor, rap legends Bone Thugs N-Harmony along with a who’s who of musicians and historians influenced by jug band music, including: Charlie Parr, Dom Flemons (of the Carolina Chocolate Drops), Bones Jugs-N-Harmony, Steel City Jug Slammers, Baby Gramps, Deep Fried Pickle Project, author Michael L. Jones, Eddie Danger and more.
